Aloha All,
A few months ago some @#$%*&^ person dropped off their pet cat and her kitten to the construction site offices where I work. For the first few weeks they barely existed on the scraps given to them by the workers here. The Mommy Cat and her Kitten were VERY skinny and not too active. Mommy Cat was VERY friendly and loved to be petted and scratched. She even loved having her tummy rubbed which is unusual for a cat. Her kitten was not so friendly but still enjoyed her chin scratched and being petted. One day I could no longer help myself I called a cat lady (as they are known over here) and she gave me a trap to trap them with. The plan was to have the mommy neutered and returned back here and put the kitten up for adoption. I was never able to trap her, however. The kitten didn't make it unfortunately. For the next week or so Mommy Cat would stand out in front of my door and screech out towards the fields where her and her kitten lived. So I decided to give Mommy Cat the best life I could considering the conditions here. So I went to Costco and bought a huge bag of dry food and I have been feeding her over the last couple of months. The workers here helped feed her by bringing shrimp, and beef and pork and rice. She never ate the rice. But it was a nice gesture. Someone always kept her water dish filled and put ice in it on hot days. I never was able to find out who was doing this to thank them. Mommy still lived out in the field across the road but came over every day and hung out by my office door all day. Hey, why not? She had free food and chilled water to drink! I went on vacation last week and fortunately for me the guy who replaced me was an animal lover and he and Mommy got along very well. I asked him to feed her while I was gone. And he said he was happy to do it. Unfortunately when I got back he left me an e-mail telling me that Mommy Cat never did not show up all week. And so far this week she has not showed up. I hope she did not get hit by a car. I hope she found herself some cat friends to hang with. Here is a picture of Mommy Cat and her kitten:
